Symptoms of teething
Teething is the first dental event in a child’s life. It could cause slightly high temperature or fever, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort or lack of appetite. Babies are often grouchy, awake at night and dribbling when teething. However, these symptoms could be eased by different gels, chilled soothers, pain relief creams or other homeopathic drugs and treatments. In case of diarrhoea or lack of appetite it is very important to have much fluid drunk and to soothe the fever.
Tooth brushing is as important (or more important) during childhood as it is in adulthood. Children should get used to regular tooth brushing and teeth cleaning from the appearance of the very first teeth which can be cleaned by a little piece of cloth or towel at the beginning. Specific soothers can be purchased in shops with a little brush on the side just to get easier for toddlers to get used to the toothbrush. |
Baby-bottle syndrome is sometimes noticeable at this age. This is the result of bacteria (streptococcus mutans) and improper nutrition. The main 4 fore-teeth get really white as the first sign of dental caries then they get discoloured from white to brown. Unfortunately, the tooth is going to die shortly then and only the roots of the tooth stay in the gum. This process could cause pain in the beginning and emotional problems later because of the looking of the teeth.
changing of teeth
Changing of teeth from milk teeth to the final ones happens between the age of 6-13. The appearance of wisdom teeth varies but usually occurs after the age of 18.
After the eruption of normal teeth it is advisable to get fissure sealing done to prevent decaying of the teeth and in order to have the little gaps (leading to the interior tooth) closed. During this procedure the surface of the tooth will be treated by gel first and fissures will be filled then. Bones of the jaw grow when teeth change. When a child has milk teeth and final teeth at the same time in the mouth, there is a possibility of the final teeth to erupt improperly, not straight but in a twisted or sided position or outstanding from the correct line of the teeth. However, this process gets right soon by itself when the jawbones start to grow. Do you think your child need an orthodontic treatment? Click here if you would like to know more about it. |
